Backpacks for Life has come up with an innovative way to fundraise so they can continue serving our veterans.
For the past 5 years, our fearless leader, Darren Magarro, has sat on the Board of Directors for the nonprofit organization, Backpacks For Life.
Backpacks For Life’s mission is to provide backpacks filled with daily essentials (like toiletries) to homeless veterans nationwide. Not only do they provide these amazing packs, but they also coach and mentor vets to help assimilate them back into society and set them up for success in all aspects of their lives.
Co-Founders Brett D’Alessandro and Alexa Modero are incredibly passionate about this cause and it shines through them in every event they host and in every backpack they send. Unfortunately, all of their usual in-person fundraising events had to be canceled due to the pandemic. At the same time, the pandemic has only exacerbated many of the issues that our veterans deal with, including homelessness, mental health, and isolation.
Brett and Alexa sat down (virtually, of course) with Darren and Dan from DSM to chat about their upcoming fundraiser, VETRideRun, happening on October 4, 2020. Are you ready to get involved with this amazing event?!
Here’s what you need to know about their first-ever virtual fundraise, VETRideRun on 10/4/20:
What: Backpacks For Life is hosting the Inaugural VETRideRun event, where individuals will ride (or run!) in support of and to help raise awareness for the issues our Veterans face. The group will ride for 45 minutes, with a goal of reaching 200 miles.
Where: Virtually! (Join us from your home gym, neighborhood, track or local gym…wherever you are comfortable!)
When: October 4, 2020
How does it work? BFL suggests a $25 donation as your registration/participation fee. Once you’ve donated, take to social media using the hashtag #VetRideRun and show them where you’re riding or running!
